We are living in a modern era. Every year is better than the last; there is a one-to-one relationship between each year and the amount of happiness per capita. It is time to reap what we have sewn.
More Americans than ever are celebrating diversity. America has voted for a black president, and then it re-elected a black president. We are living in a post-racial society. We have pulled American troops out of Iraq. The government is keeping us safe by providing advanced technology to local law enforcement. We are protecting our borders by ratcheting up homeland security.
We are building many charter schools, which are independent of our dysfunctional public education system. More Americans than ever before attend college; more than half of these students are women. Popular celebrities like Miley Cyrus and Beyonce are embracing feminism, while others embrace girl power.
Gay marriage is legal in several states around the country. Other states allow civil unions between same-sex couples. Funny sitcoms feature gay characters and even showcase gay relationships. Social media has achieved social change, through websites like Buzzfeed and UpWorthy.
Financial analysts say that we are out of the Great Recession. Fewer Americans are unemployed. Homelessness is less visible in our society. Factories, which are unsafe and gummed up by union laws, have all but disappeared. The minimum wage is increasing in many places. In Rhode Island it will be raised from eight dollars to nine dollars. Many states are standing up for people’s right to work. Many cities are reinventing themselves as tourist centers, making many new jobs in hotels and restaurants. Many neighborhoods are being revitalized and filled with young professionals. Anyone can be a millionaire in America if they work hard enough.
Let's give ourselves a round of applause for making a better world. We deserve it.
